Near sweeny lakes

Overview

It's the end of June, and what I am seeing is that it's go-time in the range!

Snow levels in the range are above 10,500FT, probably higher at this point; it's been 80 and sunny here in Pinedale and 60 during the day in the mountains, and trying to stay above freezing at night. I spoke to a few people trying to make it into Titcomb, but no one who has made it there yet. But that should change in a matter of days. Jumping down south to the Cirque of the Towers, Jackass Pass is passable, but Texas is going to have decent snow still—doable, but you'll be encountering snow. So bring those microspikes or crampons.

The bugs are officially out and hungry, so bring that bug spray and head net, run fast, or just do whatever you can to deal with them and enjoy the mountains. The Highline is about 80% melted off. I would give it maybe a week or two (weather dependent) before it's totally snow-free. The weather this weekend is cooling off and will be a little breezy, so pack that raincoat. Hopefully, the wind and rain this weekend will make the bugs take some time off.

The Gannett Peak snow bridge is holding strong for 2024. Last year, it melted off about the first week of August—this year, it could be sooner with less of a snowpack this season. But who really knows that far out.

Elkhart Park Trailhead

Accessible

All the hikers I have talked to are making it to Seneca Lake; few have made it past. There is still snow in Titcomb Basin, but it should be gone soon. When coming to this trailhead, keep in mind that the road is under construction, so plan on delays, and please respect the signage.
